Description
Prerequisities: CHEM 2301, CHEM2101L, CHEM 2302,CHEM 2102L concurent enrollment or successful completion of CHEM 4303 and CHEM 4103L.
A survey of chemical properties of Main Group elements and the Transition Metals. Concepts developed in physical chemistry, such as bonding theory and thermodynamics are applied to the understanding of these properties. Coordination chemistry of the Transition Metsals is emphasized and recent advances in this and other fields are discussed. Laboratory includes synthesis and characterization of a range or coordination compoounds. Three hours of lecture and three hours of laboratory per week.
