Description

This course explores the purpose and value of social studies education and equips candidates with strategies for integrating the core social studies disciplines—history, geography, economics, government, and culture—into effective classroom instruction. Emphasis is placed on the application of the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) to plan, implement, assess, and evaluate student learning. Candidates will develop the knowledge and pedagogical skills necessary to create engaging, inquiry-based social studies experiences that promote civic understanding and critical thinking in elementary settings.
